Meeting someone from OkCupid?

I've been corresponding with a guy on OkCupid and he's indicated that he wants to meet in person. Just the thought makes me nervous. I've never done anything like this and it's scary, not even in a literal sense. I doubt he is a rapist or murderer. I just can't even imagine how something like this would go. I'm 19 and he is 29, so there is an age gap but he seems great. Should I go through with this? And what have been anyone else's experiences on this or any other dating sites? What was it like to meet a stranger like that?
